As soon as I started my freelance career, in 2015, I noticed I would be very happy having some help to organize my thoughts. Although I really enjoy my time alone — as a good INTP-A — I could use some company when it comes to, especially, sharing my thoughts and processes through the blog (also known round here as The Library).

Then, I came up with an assistant, who should be, of course, my favorite animal: an owl. Later, realizing she could be feeling overwhelmed, one year later I hired two interns for her: the bats John and Sharon.

Yes, they’re still interns to this day.

Meet the team:

Blank Infinity, the Owl Assistant

Blank Infinity is a rare half-and-half owl, the child of a sweet female Ural owl (Strix uralensis) and a bad-tempered male great horned owl (Pseudoscops clamator). Due to this unusual crossbreed, it’s said that half-and-half owls may develop unpredictable temperaments. Still, Blank Infinity is a respectful and efficient secretary. She possesses infinite memory, though her greatest skill is delegating tasks to the interns.

Blank’s job on the site is to make sure everything runs smoothly and visitors enjoy their experience. But her most important responsibility is ideas! Like all good magical owls, she has a special ability: when she sleeps, her dreams turn into paintings, stories, and maybe even products one day. While awake, she must feed her imagination with inspiration — music (gothic and symphonic are favorites), fantasy books, mystery films, and the magical beauty of nature (plus donuts and cupcakes, of course).

Please excuse the minimalism! My portrait is still being refined.

The Interns

John the Bat
Don’t make a mess. I just finished organizing this.

John

Grumpy but helpful

Ectophylla alba, also known as the Honduran white bat, is Intern #1. John has the important job of answering blog readers’ questions, categorizing posts, brainstorming new writing ideas, and supervising Intern #2.

He tends to be snarky (when he expresses any emotion at all), and he seems to suffer through most of his tasks, including eating — which leads us to believe that the grumpiness is simply who he is, rather than him being genuinely annoyed all the time.

At four o’clock it’s tea time. And we read mystery books.
Sharon the Bat

Sharon

Not distracted — deeply focused on one thing

Our second intern is a member of the vampire bat species Diphylla ecaudata. Sharon isn’t much for conversation, but she’s incredibly focused and observant. Her duties include cleaning and tidying the library (aka blog), managing postal service (handling all site-related correspondence), and running emergency errands — such as buying cupcakes for afternoon tea in the last minute. You’ll often find her tucked away between the library shelves, lost (or deeply focused) in a mystery novel.
